The College of Emergency Nursing Australasia (CENA) is pleased to call for nominations for the Australasian Emergency Nurse of the Year award.

Entry Criteria

Nominations must address the following selection criteria:

  • The nominee must at time of nomination be a current financial member of CENA;
  • Demonstrated excellence in patient care and clinical outcomes;
  • Demonstrated excellence in commitment to professional development of other emergency nurses;
  • Demonstrated excellence in commitment to quality management;
  • The nominee (or delegate) must register and attend the ICEN 2016 Dinner.

Emergency Department of the Year 2016

Philippa Moore Publication Prize 2016

The Philippa Moore Publication Prize was established by the Emergency Nurses Association of Victoria to honour a highly respected colleague who made a substantial contribution to emergency nursing in Victoria. Philippa was an active member of the Emergency Nurses’ Special Interest Group and the Emergency Nurses Association of Victoria, a positive mentor, a motivated teacher and highly committed to advancing the speciality of emergency nursing. Sadly, Philippa died in 2003 after a short illness.

CENA recognises the importance of publication to the practice and scholarship of emergency nursing and continues this legacy to an advocate for emergency nursing. The CENA Philippa Moore Publication Prize is an award of up to $500 designed to reward and encourage CENA members to publish articles that are relevant to emergency nursing.

Application criteria

  • Nominees must be a financial member of CENA for a period of at least 2 years by the closing date of nominations each calendar year
  • Items published, including in-press items, in the AENJ in the 12 months 1st July and 30th June in the year so awarded will be automatically entered
  • Publications must be directly related to emergency nursing and may include scholarly textbooks, book chapters, and journal articles that are peer reviewed
  • A copy of the item must be submitted with the nomination
  • The AENJ Editor-in-Chief and members of the constituted selection panel are ineligible for nomination for the term of their respective appointments
  • Finalists (or appointed delegate) must register to attend the ICEN 2016 Dinner

Ben Morley Scholarship 2016

The Ben Morley Scholarship is offered to support a CENA member to undertake education, research or quality improvement activities which focus on disaster management. This scholarship was initiated after the Bali bombing by the parents of Ben Morley in honour of their son who had died only a short time earlier. His parents, both critically care trained nurses and in Bali at the time of the bombing, provided vital first aid and care to large numbers of victims of this tragedy. Their first hand experience of the devastation gave them the desire to see disaster management better supported through education, research and development initiatives.

The Scholarship value this year is $4,000.

Application criteria

  • Applicants must be current financial member of CENA
  • Applicant must be a member of CENA for at least 2 years
  • Applicants must commit to being a financial member of CENA for the two years following successful attainment of the scholarship
  • The proposed research, education or development opportunity must be relevant to the field of emergency preparedness and continuity management
  • Applicants must demonstrate how this scholarship will benefit a) the applicant and b) emergency nursing
  • Applicants will be required to prepare a written report for submission to the Board, via the Chair of the Research Committee within 2 months of the completion of the research, education or development opportunity.
