Call for Nominations

The Julie Finucane OAM Medal for Leadership in Emergency Nursing is the highest honour of the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia Ltd. It was established in 2009 in recognition of the College’s Inaugural Executive Director, Ms Julie Finucane OAM RFD. The Award is bestowed upon a member of the College who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to the leadership of the profession and discipline of emergency nursing, and to the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia.

Terms and Conditions

  1. The Julie Finucane OAM Medal for Leadership in Emergency Nursing shall be a biennial award offered in perpetuity from 2009.
  2. The Award is bestowed upon an individual by the Board of the College on the recommendation of the Censor of the award, Ms Julie Finucane OAM RFD.
  3. Nominees must demonstrate an outstanding commitment to the leadership of the profession and discipline of emergency nursing, and to the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia.
  4. The Censor of the Award, Ms Julie Finucane OAM RFD, will constitute and chair the Selection Panel in consultation with the Board of the College.
  5. The Censor and the Board of the College shall determine the criteria for this award.
  6. By the first day in September in the year of the award, the Censor will forward a recommendation to the Executive Director of the College for consideration by the Board, and approval as appropriate. The Censor and Board of the College may elect to not bestow the award in any given year. The decision of the Censor and the Board of the College is final.
  7. The prize shall include:
    1. The Julie Finucane OAM Medal for Leadership in Emergency Nursing;
    2. Entry onto the Julie Finucane OAM Medal for Leadership in Emergency Nursing Memorial Trophy;
    3. $1000 prize money.

Entry Criteria

Nominations must address the following selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated outstanding commitment to the leadership of the profession and discipline of emergency nursing, and to the College of Emergency Nursing Australasia; over a consistent period;
  • Demonstrated excellence in leadership and commitment to promoting emergency nursing widely;
  • The nominee must at time of nomination be a current financial member of CENA;
  • The nominee (or delegate) must register and attend the 2017 International Conference Dinner.

Selection

All nominations are application-in-confidence to the Censor. The decision of the Censor and the Board of the College is final.

Presentation

The 2017 Julie Finucane OAM Medal for Leadership in Emergency Nursing will be announced and awarded at the 15th International Conference for Emergency Nursing, Sydney, Australia, 11 – 13 October, 2017. The nominee or their delegate must register to attend the Conference Dinner and be available to collect the prize.  The name and photos of the winner will be entered into the CENA Honour Board in perpetuity, and published in official publications of CENA Ltd.
