NSW President's Message
We are now into August and have run three successful education evenings for the state which, so far are being evaluated as what you want from the CENA membership which is great news for the committee!
It has been a busy few months during winter and NSW has taken the lead for the position statement for Overcrowding in collaboration with ACEM. Our departments are constantly struggling with blocks in patient flow due to access and this new collaborative comes as most of us reach breaking point in the workplace.
Membership of the committee is now strong with representation across the state with equal representation from rural and remote areas as well as the main metropolitan departments. This is further demonstrated with the running of our Trauma Nursing Program in Tamworth at the end of November, along with a Train the Trainer.
We hope you are also enjoying more up to date information via the new second monthly ‘E-bulletin’ for NSW which will be now taken on as a National initiative. We feel that the electronic medium gets the information out when you need it and is a more convenient way to let you know what is happening at a state level.
CENA, Smith and Nephew and some keen Nurse Practitioners are about to commence the planning of the long awaited Module 2 in the Advanced Practice series on Minor Injuries with a focus on Fracture Management. This will include a casting workshop along with x-ray interpretation. Dates TBC
Finally, to link in with the national research strategy for CENA, Associate Professor Marg Fry from UTS is keen to establish a state chapter for research in emergency nursing. We sent out expressions of interest in the E-bulletin but just in case you missed it and are interested in getting involved, email nsw@cena.org.au
