The CENA Research Committee was established in 2006 to oversee, support and advise on strategies for the development and networking of emergency nursing research across Australasia. Objectives and related activities of the committee include:
- Providing advice on research matters to members of CENA by: disseminating knowledge and information to the CENA Board on matters relevant to research; and responding to members seeking advice on specific research matters.
- Facilitating emergency care nursing research through collaborative links by: identifying potential areas of research for CENA to support or participate in; and supporting the development of research networks based on identified research themes/projects/interests of research-active members.
The panel consists of CENA members from all States with a range of "day jobs" and experiences.
The committee has developed a structure for the CENA Research Plan with research themes of:
- Patient outcomes (eg health status, health-related quality of life; patient and family experiences; economic evaluation).
- Technology Assessment (eg clinical information systems; product evaluation; impact of technology on patient care).
- Practice Issues (eg resource utilisation; professional issues impacting on practice; evidence-based practice).
- Education and Training (eg competencies; credentialling; evaluation of training and education).
- Policy Issues (eg Commonwealth and State policies; Impact of international factors; legal and ethical issues).
